Reca is officially the safest country in the world. Global database Numbeo has revealed today that in 2019 Reca had the lowest crime rate since the measurements in 1960. With a Crime Index Rate of only 10.54, no country in the world does better. Qatar places second and Taiwan completes the podium.

Chief police officer Andrew Brown praises the strict justice system of Reca. “In our country criminals are immediately punished harshly. No excuses will be tolerated for criminal offenses. This strict policy deters possible criminals.” In Reca, only once a week someone breaks the law. And when that happens, the police force is immediately nearby. “Our police officers have all received high quality training and can respond immediately where necessary”, said Brown.

The strong figures are also due to the high political focus on safety. With 7% of the government budget, the Department of Defence, has a lot of resources. Police officers drive around in fast cars, have high-quality equipment and are well-trained. The selection procedures for police training are very strict. Only the best cadets are able to complete their training. This training lasts no less than 2 years and teaches them not only physical but also mental skills to be able to assess situations as well as possible.

According to Brown, there is still room for improvement. “Given the large sums of money that is in circulation in the financial district and our tourist hotspots, we must continue to focus strongly on the safety of our banks and casinos.” The government has declared to further invest in camera technology in the coming months. In this way, they want to keep a preventive eye on possible suspicious persons.

Reca hasn't always been as safe as it is today. Half a century ago, capital came to the country. Numerous banks and casinos were opened and security has not yet been considered in the first years. Criminals saw opportunities and took them. Robbers repeatedly ran off with large sums of money. One time in 1984, a failed casino robbery ended in a massacre with 28 deaths. That was the last straw and the population demanded strict action from the government. Less than a year later, the Ministry of Justice took strict measures. The number of police officers soared and cameras were everywhere. The first criminals caught were severely punished, which immediately set an example and deterred others with the same idea. Since then, the government has continued to invest, with results. The title of "safest country" is therefore no surprise.
